Jayanta Shaw is working now as a principal photographer with Times of India Bengali daily news paper Ei Samay, Kolkata.
Jayanta is an Arts Graduate from The University of Calcutta. He completed Basic Photography Course from Chayapath under the Federation of Indian Photography. As a photojournalist he attended the workshop under Reuters Foundation. He has also done a course offered by Centurion Risk Assessment Services, London, United Kingdom on Hostile Environment.
Jayanta is working as a photojournalist in India since 1986. He has covered major news events in India and South-East Asia, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bangladesh which includes Babri Masjid issue, Operation Rhino (Assam), Gorkhaland movement, Bhuj earthquake, Khumbh Mela, Kargil War, Afghanistan, Tsunami in Indian subcontinent, Flood in Bangladesh, Maoist Movement in Nepal, Mumbai terror attack 26/11/2008 and more than 40 one day international & test cricket matches in different venues of India & Bangladesh. He has worked as a staff photographer for Reuters International News Agency in India for eleven years. His works have been widely published in LIFE, TIME, International Herald Tribune, Washington Post, Boston Globe, National Geographic Online and many others international & national dailies and magazines. He had his first Solo Photographic Exhibition on Calcutta (Pictures selected by eminent Indian Photographer Raghu Rai) in 1997 at Oxford Book Store and organized many group exhibitions & multimedia presentations since then. |

Filmography: Jayanta has turned his interest into filmmaking very passionately after finishing his filmmaking course under "Chitrabani" associated with St. Xavier's Kolkata in 2009. His documentary and short films have been screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival (short and documentary section), BIOFF film festival at Puri, KSFF organized by Chitrabani & Nandan. He was commissioned by the Films Division of India to make a documentary film, "Silent Killer" in 2011. Jayanta has also designed in a documentary on Premenda Mitra (2010) by Sahitya Academy directed by Saikat Bhattacharya. Commonwealth Games 2010: Jayanta also holds experience as a photo manager with Press Information Bureau (PIB) during Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010. |
